I was reminded of this great tune today and was bumping it for a while. Ideal for summer grilling, pool lounging, and playing in your car....

Oblivion - Tyler, The Creator
Music for the middle of the night.
I started out clicking strategically… and by the end was just wildly clicking and dancing in my chair.

Local Natives | Who Knows, Who Cares (A Takeaway Show)
This has already made the rounds nearly everywhere but here - thankfully it’s still...

This one’s getting me in the mood for sun, suds and sand. Too bad it’s in the 60s and rainy. When I close my eyes and try real hard not to look out the window, I can almost imagine myself there now…

Last Dinosaurs - Honolulu
Browsing through new music rarely makes me want to hear a full length album nearly as much as this track from Last Dinosaurs has. This Australian group has combined everything about music (and something from every band) that I’ve been obsessed with for the last year or so. They combine the harmonies of Local Natives, the ironically dancy guitar lines of Two Door Cinema Club and the undeniable catchiness of Young the Giant. Literally the best track I’ve heard in a while and a definite early frontrunner for Song of the Summer.

Com Truise - Brokendate
I haven’t paid much attention to chillwave in past months. It took nothing more than this one to get me right back into the swing of things. Best stage name ever. And the song’s right on par.

The Rapture - How Deep is Your Love
How do I feel about The Rapture? I’ve been super indifferent about them ever since they came on the scene in 2006. However, I believe this is worth a listen - even if it’s just for the sax solo.

Dawes - Time Spent in Los Angeles
I wake up every morning and thank Jesus for bringing Dawes to the masses. I was a little worried about the new Dawes material, with Middle Brother having just put out their debut, but man. Have you heard this opening track? It’s unreal.

The Naked and Famous - Young Blood (White Sea Remix)
Listening to remixes of bands that already sound remixed is a mixed bag of emotions for me. However, this particular jam gave me goose pimples. All up and down my back and stuff. I also have a huge crush on the chick in this band. But let’s be honest, what hipster chick isn’t even a little hot?

Young The Giant - My Body (Two Door Cinema Club Remix)
Here’s a little ditty to get you through your Memorial Day weekend. We had the pleasure of seeing both of these bands on consecutive nights back in January and still haven’t recovered. Get well soon.

Fatboy Slim - Don’t Let The Man Get You Down
Norman Cook has a way of flirting with the mainstream and the genius. Similar to Christopher Walken’s cameo in Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” video, this track’s hook about “long haired freaky people” strikes a chord in just about everyone. Even if you can’t quite explain it, you can probably identify with it.

Bon Iver - Calgary
I often struggle with what I expect from the follow-up to an artist’s debut. Do I want it to sound the same, at the risk of cheapening what made me fall for the group in the first place? Do I want it to be a departure, at the risk of completely turning me off from the group and any subsequent efforts? It’s the true embodiment of a “game time decision.” I think I’ve made the right one here. Bon Iver has a sound that’s so completely identifiabe that even his efforts to stray from his last album, end up coming full circle in a way that I can’t get mad at. Not even a little.
