Certified Gold 2010: Top Tracks of the Summer

Without a doubt, a summer is nothing without good music to back it. Some of the greatest memories of your life will happen over the course of those three short months. Through the haze that is fall and winter, these memories might only be jogged through the aid of listening to the music that was played throughout the summer. Here’s what tickled our fancy this summer:

1) Ratatat - Drugs

There was a time before this album came out when a certain blog tried to post this very song and the band’s representation threatened a lawsuit if it wasn’t removed. Sorry brah. This song was played on every road trip this summer at least 5 times. The quintessential banger that belongs in everyone’s 8-track player, or whatever’s trendy these days.

2) Tennis - Marathon

Recipient of The Record Crate’s Certified Gold 2010 Sportsmanship Award makes the number 2 slot on our summer playlist. This husband-wife duo came out halfway through the summer with two songs that were, in our eyes, instant classics. Capping off our summer was a last-minute Tennis concert and it couldn’t have been any better.

3) Die Antwoortd - Enter the Ninja

Quite a unique group, these guys. The second duo currently having relations with one-another on our playlist. Bringing true South African hip hop to the American shores. Not a whole lot else to say about these guys.

4) Kele - Everything You Wanted (RAC Remix)

Once we got ahold of this track mid-summer, we couldn’t put it down. RAC remixes have a solid flow to them, almost making entirely new songs out of what they’re remixing. We weren’t huge into the original track, but this one made us a believer. Sometimes it’s good to go solo, right?

5) Penguin Prison - The Worse It Gets

Simply put, a track that got us moving. A perfect addition to your road trip mix list.

6) Miike Snow - Song For No One

This one’s by no means a new track (nor was it this summer), but its got a true summer feel. Listening to it now puts us back in the middle of July, poolside.

7) Something A La Mode - Paris Makes Me Feel Like Dancing

No comment. Just dancing.

8) Cee Lo Green - No One’s Gonna Love You (Band of Horses Cover)

When this dropped we were literally at a loss for words. How can you take a track like this one, which was already done immaculately by Band of Horses and make it even better? Don’t ask us. Ask Cee Lo.

9) Florrie - Give Me Your Love (Fred Falke Club Edit)

Maybe you can’t tell, but we were way into feelers this summer. Well … that and gorgeous European female singers.

10) Ellie Goulding - Starry Eyed (Theophilus London Remix)

… if you couldn’t tell before. You sure can now. Man. Ellie Goulding. What a looker. Theophilus is not so awesome to look at, but great to listen to.

There you have it folks. These weren’t the only ten jams we rocked out to this summer, but they were certainly some of the more frequent ones. Congratulations to everyone on the list for being CERTIFIED GOLD.
