Hellogoodbye’s new song “When We First Met” premiered on AbsolutePunk yesterday and what better way to celebrate then to leak it here on The Record Crate. HGB has been widely revered as just another synth-pop band who writes songs about falling in love and pop warner football. Honestly, they’ve been more of a joke band than anything, which is why I think it’s ironic that they’ve been acclaimed in the past as much as they have. Forrest Kline, a former Drive Thru Records intern gone Drive Thru artist, is the sole remaining original member, who has seemed to take a step back from making dance music on his laptop. Their last LP “Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinoasurs!” was a testament to how the band (or just Forrest) wanted to branch off and make real live music, however this wasn’t fully apparent until the release of their last EP “The Ukelele EP,” which featured Forrest playing his ukelele singing love songs and covering Buddy Holly.
This is quintesential Hellogoodbye-he chronicles his love of a lady through the length of his and her hair in the various periods of their relationship. If for no other reason, you should check this song out because it’s the first time I’ve used the “repeat one” setting on my iPod, giving this song roughly 40 plays in the last 24 hours.
Peep it.
