I generally find it nauseating when a new band comes onto the scene that could be mistaken for another band, unless the listener knows what’s up already. I know what you’re thinking and no this isn’t another post about how much popular culture sucks. If anything, I’m about to give what girls call “snaps” to a band who could defend themselves entirely with the following statement: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
It’s no secret to you Record Crate readers that the Beach Boys are the single most influential rock ‘n’ roll band in my opinion. So much so, that I never thought that any band would have the gumption to try and rip their sound off in this day and age. Then The Explorers Club came along. My Dad once said that “The Explorers Club sound like someone’s Senior Thesis on Brian Wilson.” He’s right. Take a look at these geezers. They’re the nerdiest dudes on the planet. They hail from South Carolina, which I think is awesome. Having just returned from a 4-year stint on the losing side of the Civil War, I know for a fact that there are only two types of music in the South: Country and Rap. The Explorers Club are the antithesis of any form of music that usually comes out of the South. I really don’t feel like wasting your time by writing a bunch of words that you could self-discern form a video. Here you go:
