Anthem Part 3

To say that I’m a little concerned about the impending reunion of the three (former) most talented dudes in pop-punk would be an understatement. Before you read on, take a look at this video from Blink-182’s first show since their “indefinite hiatus.”

Not to say that the band lacks live skill, but there was something undeniable about the way Blink conducted their shows using improvisation. By the looks of this video, it sounds like they’ve either a) become better musicians or b) PRACTICED. I would like to think it was both, so that’s what I’m going to believe for now. However, Blink-182 ca. 2009 is not the Blink-182 that I fell in love with. It sounds too much like their records. I waited impatiently before every song i’ve ever seen them perform live to see how Travis would improvise his drum parts and how Tom would cover up his blatent lack of guitar skills. I hope they’re just shaking off their cobwebs.

I do not want to get my initial response confused with distaste. I will love everything Blink-182 does, even if that includes a Tom Jones cover album. I’m just suprised at their newfound musicianship live. But you know what they say, first (or second) impressions are the most important.

I AM EXCITED TO REPORT: Chester French and Asher Roth will be joining the boys on their tour this summer, scheduled to wrap up in Atlantic City on October 3.
